3-Jul-2009
Written by: Sari N. Kent

Piper Perabo, who played aspiring songwriter Violet Sanford in 2000’s “Coyote Ugly,” may play the lead in a USA Network project called “Covert Affairs.”

The star of 2000’s “Coyote Ugly,” Piper Perabo, has been chosen to play the lead in the USA Network spy thriller, “Covert Affairs.”

According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “The project, which has been quietly casting two major roles for the past month, hasn't received a firm pilot order, but a green light is expected within a couple of weeks.”

Written by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, the show’s plot centers on Annie Walker, played by Perabo, who is a CIA trainee who joins the intelligence organization just as her ex-boyfriend becomes a “person of interest” to her new employers.

The role of a blind technician specialist who helps Walker in her assignments, named Auggie Anderson, still needs to be cast. “Affairs” is from Universal Cable Prods and Dutch Oven's Dave Bartis and Doug Liman will be its executive producers. Corman and Ord will serve as “Affairs” co-executive producers.

Corman and Ord also wrote the 2000 family comedy, “Deck the Halls,” which starred Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, “Sex and the City’s” Kristin Davis and ABC’s “Pushing Daisies’” Kristin Chenoweth.

Perabo’s credits include the 2008 family comedy, “Beverly Hills Chihuahua,” which also starred Jamie Lee Curtis, Drew Barrymore, Andy Garcia, George Lopez, Luis Guzmán, Loretta Devine, Paul Rodriguez and Cheech Marin as well as 2007’s romantic comedy, “Because I Said So,” which also starred Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore and Lauren Graham from the “Gilmore Girls.”
