L.A. Prepares for Michael’s Memorial
3-Jul-2009
Written by: Julie Ruggirello

Over 750,000 people expected to be in L.A. for the memorial.

With everyone trying to get their hands on a free ticket to Michael Jackson’s memorial, it is no surprise that Los Angeles has a lot to do in preparation for the July 7 event. Although only 17,500 tickets will be given out by a lottery on StaplesCenter.com, MTV reported that 750,000 people from all over the world will be in L.A. for the memorial, to be held at the Staples Center.

The Nokia Theatre, not very far from the Staples Center, will be showing a closed-circuit screening of the live service. According to Entertainment Weekly, there will be 6,500 seats available in the Nokia Theatre for fans to view the service.

In preparation for the large crowds, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry, also the city’s acting mayor, warned, “You might want to consider watching this from the comfort of your own home,” reported Reuters.

According to Reuters, state and local police will be working security together for the memorial service, but the Los Angeles Police Department declined comment on how many police officers would be working the event.

The memorial service for the King of Pop will be aired live on MTV, VH1 and VH1 Classic on July 7 at 1 p.m. EST, according to MTV.
