The 4th of July weekend means more moviegoers.
“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” and “Public Enemies” are receiving a boost in ticket sales this weekend.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Friday’s earnings gave “Transformers 2” another $17.8 million for a 10-day total of $268.7 million. It has now become the highest grossing film of 2009. “Ice Age 3” came at a close second on Friday with $17 million for a five-day total of $41.9 million.
Variety reports that “Public Enemies” was third place with $10.1 million. Its total earnings since its opening on Wednesday are $24.9 million. Meanwhile, “Transformers 2” is well on its way to becoming the second film to quickly earn $300 million after 2008’s “The Dark Knight.”
Since it is the 4th of July weekend, many Americans had Friday off, giving the movies a boost in ticket sales, Los Angeles Times reports. “Ice Age 3” could have earned what it did due to many moviegoers flocking to its matinees.
