Medical Databases May Hold Answer to Jackson’s Death
4-Jul-2009
Written by: Katelyn Latawiec

Some medical information cannot be deleted from servers, possibly making it easier for officials to determine how the pop icon died.

Investigators may have found a way to learn whether and which doctors are to blame for the unexpected death of pop legend Michael Jackson, according to TMZ.com.

While celebrities often use pseudonyms when visiting the doctor and while paper trails sometimes run out, many medical professionals keep records and other information in a medical software system. Information like patient names, types of treatment and drugs prescribed or administered, cannot be deleted from the server. Although medical charts, different from the basic billing information, can be deleted, systems show who deleted the information and the date on which the person deleted it.

Officials recently found the drug, Diprivan, in Jackson’s home. According to the Los Angles Times, some bottles in Jackson’s home had no labels, while others had labels with the names of his pseudonyms.

Investigators are now focusing on five doctors to help determine the cause of Jackson’s death. According to TMZ.com, if it can be found who prescribed or administered the drug to Jackson, officials can prosecute those involved for manslaughter.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Diprivan is used to make people unconscious and can be very dangerous if it is not administered in a hospital by an anesthesiologist. A rapid administration of the drug can cause heart and breathing problems.

According to the New York Daily News, Jackson traveled with an anesthesiologist during the mid-'90s when he was experiencing difficult insomnia.
