“Air” McNair Fatally Shot in Nashville
4-Jul-2009
Written by: Julie Ruggirello

Former NFL quarterback found dead in downtown Nashville.

Steve McNair, a former NFL quarterback, 36, was found dead in what appears to be a double homicide in downtown Nashville, Tenn., according to the Agence France-Presse. The AFP also reported that McNair died from a gunshot wound to the head. The other person killed was a woman.

McNair retired from the NFL last April, after 13 seasons. He spent 11 seasons with the Tennessee Titans. CBS Sports reported that McNair brought the Titans to four playoffs and even led them to Super Bowl XXXIV. He played for the Baltimore Ravens for his finals two seasons in the NFL, according to CBS Sports.

The New York Times NFL blogger, Toni Monkovic, wrote, “McNair was one of his era’s best quarterbacks and one of its toughest players, playing through countless injuries.”

Bud Adams, owner of the Titans, said in a statement, “We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair’s passing today. He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing,” reported ESPN.
