Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEA), along with the Taiwanese ministry of economic affairs and six Taiwan-based firms, has formed an agreement to build games for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation Portable (PSP).
Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEA), along with the Taiwanese ministry of economic affairs and six Taiwan-based firms, has inked a deal to craft games for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation Portable (PSP) products.
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “The deal involves SCE introducing Japanese and western game producers into Taiwan to help local game developers deliver console games for the Taiwanese and mainland Chinese market. Consoles such as the PS3 are currently a rarity in China, where gamers favor online platforms. The ministry will subsidize 40 percent of the cost of software development and technology licensing incurred by the Taiwanese firms.”
The six firms are comprised of XPEC, Intersev, Yeck and SOGA as well as two telephone operators, Tatung and Far EasTone.
“A complete home entertainment vision will eventually allow all Sony products such as high-def TVs, handsets, navigation systems and other devices to ‘talk’ to each other and deliver all forms of digital content,” SCEA President Tetsuhiko Yasuda said at a press conference Monday.
Developer XPEC was founded in 2000 and has successfully released several cross platform game titles such as Neverland Saga Zero (PS2, 2004) and Bounty Hounds (PSP, 2006).
Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) mobile phone operator Far EasTone was awarded two wireless (GSM 900 and GSM 1800).
YECK Entertainment was created by a troop of passionate young experts in the game industry. Their mission is to fuse next-gen and cross platform skills to develop supreme visual and entertaining display.
Developer SOGA was founded in 2004 and is a subsidiary of Sony Online Entertainment LLC. SOGA designs games for both PC and Playstation 3 platforms. Currently they are constructing Stephen Chow's-Kung Fu Hustle which is scheduled to be released this winter.
