Former NFL star shot to death.
Former NFL quarterback Steve McNair was found dead in a Nashville condominium on Saturday, reports Reuters.
McNair, 36, was found with several gunshot wounds, including one to the head, on a sofa in the condominium’s living room.
A 20-year-old woman was also found dead at the scene with a single gunshot wound to the head. Nashville police spokesperson Don Aaron identified the woman as Sahel Kazemi, a reported “friend” of McNair’s.
"The circumstances surrounding the shooting deaths remain under active investigation," Nashville police told Reuters in a statement. No suspects have been taken into custody.
McNair’s wife, Mechelle, is not believed to be involved in the incident, says ESPN.com.
McNair was known as a hometown hero, playing 13 seasons in the NFL. McNair led the Tennessee Titans to their only Super Bowl appearance. The NFL quarterback retired with the Baltimore Ravens after the 2007 season.
"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today," Titans owner K. S. "Bud" Adams said in a statement on the team's Web site. "He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl."
Autopsies are scheduled for Sunday.
