Almost 1 million expected to crowd downtown L.A.

Over 1.6 million people signed up for Michael Jackson’s memorial service tickets.

According to BBC news, 11,000 tickets are being issued for the service at the Staples Center, 6,500 for a simulcast at the Nokia Theatre nearby. 8,750 fans selected will receive email notification today. Fans that receive notification will receive instructions on how to pick up their tickets on Monday along with a wristband.

According to the Los Angeles Times, registration began at 10 a.m. Friday and ended at 6 p.m. Saturday. Random selection by a computer will determine who will be selected for the one-shot event.

ABC News reports that the memorial service will broadcast live at 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 7. Officials are estimating up to 750,000 Jackson fanatics will be near the Staples Center, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Authorities have already warned people to watch the service from the comfort of their homes.
