Jackson to Rest In James Brown Style
6-Jul-2009
Written by: Corinna Craddock
Jackson family unveils coffin as circus comes to town.
The King of Pop will be laid to rest in a rare blue and gold coffin similar to that which housed the body of Jackson's idol, the late James Brown.
More than 1.6 million people have put their name in the hat for an invitation to attend the final farewell.
L.A.P.D. braces for crowds by tapping into overtime reserves to cover the cost of policing the crowds, as word comes in, warning of a different type of stampede.
Elephants are expected to march into Staples Center on the Tuesday morning that Jackson's memorial is planned to begin at 10 a.m.
The annual march of the elephants into town is the tradition of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus. Almost a dozen of the mammals will begin their course from Union Station, hours before dawn, in order to reach Staples Center.
With crowds that may total hundreds of thousands of people, booked back to back with a literal circus coming to town, the performances of Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys may spur sentimental fans over the edge.
City finances or threat of a stampede won't deter those lucky enough to have both a ticket and the required wristband in tact for the service.
Ringleaders of every major news organization will provide extensive coverage of the event.
