Paula Abdul Remains as Judge on "Idol"

Abdul is optimistic about returning to "American Idol."

There were talks of "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul moving on from the hit show on Fox. But now she's not going anywhere and will be back for another season.

"I've been invited to stay the duration of the show, however long it lasts," Abdul told the Associated Press.

The judge's contract has yet to be renewed after the eighth season. New details of the contract had not been determined.

During an interview with Abdul, 47, on the set of "Drop Dead Diva," she explained that the "American Idol" panel is a "dysfunctional family of sorts."

"I'm the nurturing mom, Simon's the disapproving dad, and Randy's the cool brother," she said. "It's been an interesting journey. It's something that I'll always would want to be a part of."

"Drop Dead Diva" will premiere on July 12 on the Lifetime channel.
