United's Negligent Baggage Handling Makes David Carroll a Star
David Carroll, guitarist in the band, "Sons of Maxwell," created a YouTube hit after United Airlines broke his favorite guitar and refused to pay for it. According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, the country parody song, "United Breaks Guitars," saw over 100,000 hits in the first few hours.
Even though Carroll paid $1,200 in repairs and spent months trying to get United to compensate him, he now says that he doesn't want anything from the airline company. After his video became a hit, United Airlines contacted him and offered to give him what he wanted, but Carroll just said that he has "no hard feelings" toward them.
United Airlines doesn't seem to be angry with Carroll, either. The managing director of customer solutions, Rob Bradford, even asked if the video could be used as a training tool to help improve the way that their customers are treated. According to the Chicago Tribune, United's spokeswoman said the parody video was "excellent."
The L.A. Times reports that "United Breaks Guitars" is just the first part of a trilogy of parody videos about his relationship with the company.
