Kelly Preston Scheduled to Speak About Son's Death
It's been a difficult time for the Travolta family since the death of son Jett, who died of a sudden seizure while on vacation with his parents in the Bahamas last January.
Since the teen's death, the Travoltas haven't spoken publicly about their grief. In October, however, Kelly Preston, Jett's mother, will speak publicly for the first time about his death.
She is scheduled to speak at California Governor's Conference for Women, the event's host Maria Shriver told People Magazine.
"If she can empower one other woman who feels like they can't get out of bed, or get through the day, whatever the loss, it'll be worthwhile sharing her story," Shriver said.
Preston will be on a panel called "Grief & Resilience" with Elizabeth Edwards and Susan St. James, who are have also lost sons.
Shriver said of these women, "Their goal is, 'If I can help one other woman through this then it will be worth it.'"
Preston thought hard before accepting the invitation to speak, according to Shriver.
"She has been thinking about this for a couple of months. I asked her to speak and she knew about the conference and decided if she was only going to speak once, it would be here. She wants the conversation to be about more than just her."
