'Napoleon Dynamite' Star Has New Comedy Central Sitcom

Actor/Filmaker, Jon Heder, will be starring in a new Comedy Central sitcom.
Jon Heder, best known for his role in “Napoleon Dynamite,” will be in a new Comedy Central sitcom. The 31-year-old actor/filmmaker will be starring in the series playing a geek – shocking! Certainly this is not the first time Heder will be typecast in the geek role, but as audiences have seen in “Napoleon Dynamite,” he’s got it down pat.
Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes of the sitcom, a modest number which will determine whether viewers like the show. If the ratings hit a certain window, Comedy Central will order another 90 episodes, a huge number, to be filmed the following year. Hopefully Heder can reach that level of security.
One aspect of the sitcom that could potentially hurt Heder is that it is a multi-camera comedy (think “Seinfeld”) which is somewhat outdated. Viewers and critics seem to prefer single-camera comedies like “The Office”.
In the years following “Napoleon Dynamite” Heder fans have remained faithful, but Heder as an actor has yet to reach the same success as his first film. Audiences find it difficult to see him as anyone but Napoleon. Hopefully, this sitcom can be Heder’s chance to prove himself. The sitcom is being produced by huge names in comedy –Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Chris Henchy—so he has some of comedy’s best backing him up.
The show will make its debut in the summer of 2010.
