Weinstein Brothers Split With Disney
Disney to end its relationship with Miramax founders, the Weinstein brothers.
Announced today, Miramax founders, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, will end its twelve year relationship with The Walt Disney Company after September 30 to create a new company. The Weinstein brothers will retain the Dimension title for their company, but Disney will keep the Miramax title as well as the libraries for both Miramax and Dimension Films. The brothers will continue a film relationship with the Disney Company, however, and could work on more than 25 films including an expansion of the "Spy Kids" and "Scary Movie" franchises.
The brothers' new company will release 15 to 20 films a year and has the benefit of relationships with top directors including Quentin Tarantino.
