Ryan Reynolds Is the Green Lantern

Reynolds is starring in the picture but is no stranger to playing superheroes.

Ryan Reynolds beat out competition Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper to play the DC Comics hero, Green Lantern.

Hollywood Reporter says that Reynolds and his representatives started negotiations for the part on Friday.

Martin Campbell, director of "Casino Royale" and "The Mask of Zorro," will direct.

Reynolds's current film, "The Proposal," in which he stars opposite Sandra Bullock, hit number one at the U.S. box office and has made over $100 million domestically.

If the deal works out, it would make Reynolds the first actor ever to play characters from both DC and Marvel.

He recently had a supporting role in comic-book movie, 20th Century Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," as Deadpool. The character is in development for another "X-Men" spin-off film that is scheduled for release in 2011, but could presumably be postponed.

Reynolds also played the Hannibal King in Marvel's "Blade: Trinity."

A few years ago, he was attached to play DC's "The Flash."
