China to Introduce Neverland ll

Fans of Michael Jackson in China can pay the artist tribute by visiting their own Neverland Ranch.

Michael Jackson's death was certainly a shock and a tragedy to his fans in Los Angeles and across the nation. What many didn't expect was the extensive amount of mourning expressed throughout the world, especially in China. In honor of the pop icon, the Shanghai community plans to build a replica of Neverland Ranch by next year.

The China Daily newspaper reported that Western artists have made a huge impact on the local Chinese market, Jackson being one of the most influential. The project will be constructed on Chongming Island and is expected to cost 100 million yuan ($15 million).

Qiu Xuefan, an investor involved with the expenses of the Jackson tribute, is excited for the project to begin. "By building a Neverland here in China, we want to pay tribute to him and at the same time offer the Chinese people an outlet for expressing their love toward him," he said. "His music is a legacy to the world and should not be forgotten. We also would like to set up a fund, with profits being used to help encourage children with musical talent."

According to Reuters, the paper said the revamped Neverland will include "Chinese characteristics to have it blend in with the local environment." But not all residents are supportive of the tribute. "If the purpose is simply to pay tribute to Michael, I would suggest investors open it for free, just as Michael did for the children," said Wei Wei, deputy head of Jackson's fan club in China. "Otherwise, they are just making money from it."
