Portman to play Jane Foster
The hunt for an appropriate comic book female lead and love interest has finally come to a close. Marvel Studios announced that Natalie Portman will join the cast of the highly anticipated Thor.
Portman will play the role of Jane Foster, a nurse who finds herself in a love triangle with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his alter ego Donald Blake. Thor being the Norse god of thunder and Jane being a common, mortal civilian.
"Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: Thor. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present-day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth," Marvel Studios said as a description of the film's plot.
Portman is already familiar with films regarding comic book action and adventure after starring in the DC Comics-based film . This will make her part of the elite few actors who have appeared in both DC Comics and Marvel Studios films, reported MTV Splash Page.
Thor is scheduled to hit theaters May 20, 2011.
