Actress Maura Tierney, 44, had to undergo surgery to remove a tumor from her breast, the New York Times reported.
NBC, who is producing Tierney's new show, "Parenthood," decided to stop production for eight weeks so the actress will have time to receive treatment.
"I have discovered a tumor in my breast, which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed," Tierney said in a statement.
She also said the doctors told her that the condition was "very treatable."
NBC said "Parenthood," based on the 1989 Ron Howard comedy, has been set back from the fall 2009 to 2010. The network had also said this caused "confusion and undue alarm" by announcing that filming had been delayed.
