30 Rock Dominates Emmy Nominations

The NBC comedy gains 22 nominations, and is surrounded by fresh shows.

NBC's satire "30 Rock" landed 22 primetime nominations on Thursday, including best comedy, best actress for Tina Fey, and best actor for Alec Baldwin who won for the same role last year.

Another Emmy heavyweight, AMC's 60s drama "Mad Men" garnered 16 nominations, including best drama, best actor, and four writing awards. Another AMC show, "Breaking Bad," was also among the drama and best actor nods.

Fox's "Family Guy" is the first animated series to be nominated for a primetime comedy Emmy since "The Flintstones" in 1961.

The Academy told Reuters that 41 of the 83 nominations for drama and comedy programs for the June 2008-May 2009 season were different from the preceding year. Fresh talent is being recognized.

HBO's "Big Love" and "Flight of the Conchords", AMC's "Breaking Bad", and CBS's "How I Met Your Mother" were among those new contenders. "How I Met Your Mother's" Neil Patrick Harris will host the Emmys on Sept. 20, and earned his second nomination for his role.

HBO lead the pack with 99 nominations, followed by NBC (67), ABC (55), CBS (49), Fox (42), Showtime (29), and AMC (23).
