'Rock Band 2' Will Let Musicians Upload Their Own Songs
The hit video game series "Rock Band" is introducing an exciting new feature into their next game: user-created content.
According to Rolling Stone, aspiring musicians can turn their own songs into playable tracks in "Rock Band 2" through the new Rock Band Network. The gameplay files will then be tested, and if approved, put onto Xbox Live as buyable new tracks.
Not only will the musicians get exposure (plus royalties), players will no longer become tired of playing the same songs over and over.
Unfortunately, these songs will only be available to premium Xbox Live members. The PlayStation 3 and Wii versions of "Rock Band 2" will only get a selection of pre-approved tracks that will become available sometime after the game's release in August.
Game Informer writes that musicians whose songs are approved will be able to set their own prices. The tracks will probably cost between 50 cents and three dollars, and the creators will receive a 30 percent cut.
Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos said: "Our goal with 'Rock Band' has always been to go beyond making music games and create a true music platform."
