Pulitzer Winners Announced
This years Pulitzer awards honored the best in writing recently. Winning the play award, "Doubt," written by Oscar-winning writer John Patrick Shanley, is about a priest accused of molesting a boy. The play is timely after the US Catholic Church scandal that implicated 4,000 priests charged in the last 50 years in cases involving sexual abuse of children, mostly boys. Other award recipients include Marilynne Robinson in fiction for her novel "Gilead", US poet laureate Ted Kooser in poetry for "Delights and Shadows, and composer Steven Stucky in music for "Second Concerto for Orchestra."
Additional winner include non-fiction books by David Hackett Fischer, Mark Stevens, Annalyn and Steve Coll. The Los Angeles Times won the public service award in journalism; The Wall Street journal won two awards.
