Mischa Barton Hospitalized

Mischa Barton has been hospitalized this week from an apparent meltdown. The 23-year-old star of the hit series, "The O.C.," is undergoing treatment at Cedars-Sanai Medical Center under an involuntary psychiatric hold, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The cause of her meltdown is unspecified but sources close to the star say they saw this coming. One source mentioned to People Magazine of Barton's strong alcohol and drug use, and how it "drove people away." It is said Barton has been dealing with some personal issues.

Barton has been known for her destructive behavior as she was arrested for DUI in late 2007, which later led to rehab for the young starlet.

If all goes well, Barton could be released from the hospital Saturday afternoon upon demand, or under doctor's permission. But if the starlet continues to show signs of distraught behavior, the hospital can hold her up to 14 days.
