Once a Beatle, Always a Beatle

Sir Paul McCartney takes the stage for three nights to christen Citi Field, the replacement of Shea Stadium, which was full of Beatles' history.

Sir Paul McCartney probably experienced a little dej... vu when he stepped onstage at Citi Field on Friday. Citi Field was built to replace Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played an iconic and earth-shattering half-hour set back in 1965.

According to Newsday.com, McCartney drew from the entirety of his extensive music catalogue – from the early Beatles to Wings to his recent solo albums. McCartney evoked the memories of his late bandmates, John Lennon and George Harrison, playing the emotional ballad, "Here Today," in honor of Lennon, as well as introducing "Give Peace a Chance" into the middle of "A Day in the Life." He also strummed a ukulele, given to him by Harrison, in time to the "Abbey Road" track, "Something."

USA Today reports that Billy Joel took the stage for a duet with McCartney on the high-energy track, "I Saw Her Standing There," as payback for McCartney's appearance at Joel's concert last July that served as the swan song for Shea Stadium.

USA Today also reports that the tickets for Friday's show, as well as for the two follow-up concerts today and Tuesday, sold out in five minutes flat – proving that 44 years later, McCartney is still a Beatle.
