Abdul making a mistake leaving 'Idol'
It's baffling sometimes when a Hollywood relationship fizzles. Everything looks on the up-and-up, the relationship is mutually beneficial for both parties, and there's not even that much work involved in staying together, but somehow rifts grow, and a split is inevitable.
So, the news of Paula Abdul and "American Idol" parting ways is both saddening and befuddling. The source of the split is, unsurprisingly, money. Abdul has yet to be offered a contract for the ninth season of "American Idol," or rather a contract that she deems suitable for her services. RadarOnline reports that the singer turned talent judge was hoping for a $20 million offer, but has only received one half that size. Her lofty demands may stem from her co-workers' plus-sized checks: Ryan Seacrest recently signed a three-year deal worth a total of $45 million, while Simon Cowell is reportedly making close to $100 million a year.
"Very sadly, it does not appear that she's going to be back on 'Idol,'" the singer's manger, David Sonenberg, tells the Los Angeles Times. And good for her. She's been busy with other endeavors, like playing the fool in "Bruno," or making headlines admitting then refuting an addiction to painkillers.
Does it make sense, then, for Abdul to leave the program that's brought fame back to her? To give up the strenuous position of being the "nice judge" on television's most popular reality program, because she feels her irreplaceable services are more valuable than people think? It's all nonsense and illogical. Abdul should just apply a fixated smile to her face, accept her career rejuvenation, and take whatever millions she's offered. Because some relationships just make too much sense, and for Abdul, she should have held onto her "American Idol" gig till death did them part.
