Singer To Take On Government
Martha Reeves, of the Vandellas, saw fame with hits such as Dancing in the Street, (Love Is Like a) Heat Wave, and Nowhere to Run. She is now looking to make waves in the Detroit political scene as she plans to run for a seat on city council. All nine seats of the Detroit city council are up for re-election this November and Reeves hopes to snag one. She told a local TV station, "I think I've had a very good opportunity to travel the world and to observe things. I've always been a good team player and I figure I'll be an asset on our city council in Detroit." Among the cities problems, Reeves cited the abandoned buildings and struggling public school system. "I'd like to start with the schools and have them, you know, sort of scrutinized and have them get a better understanding of how to educate our children," she said.
Reeves is now 63 years old.
