Taco Bell Chihuahua Dies
Gidget, the Chihuahua, whose Taco Bell commercials made her one of the most famous canines in the world, died late Tuesday reports the Los Angeles Times.
Gidget died at the age of 15. The owner of Studio Animal Services in Castaic says the dog suffered a massive stroke and had to be euthanized at her trainer's home.
Gidget played a male dog in a 1997 Taco Bell commercial proclaiming "Yo quiero Taco Bell", which made her a household dog. What was supposed to be one commercial turned into an advertising campaign that ran from 1997 to 2000. The male voice was dubbed by Argentine actor Carlos Alazraqui, who is now best known for his role as Deputy James Garcia on Comedy Central's "Reno 911!"
According to the Chicago Tribune the Chihuahua enjoyed hikes and lying out in the sun. The pup's trainer, Sue Chipperton said that Gidget was always professional at work. "Gidget always knew where the camera was," she said.
