Tim Burton previews 'Alice in Wonderland' at Comic Con

Tim Burton shows footage from the new "Alice in Wonderland" at San Diego's Comic-Con with Johnny Depp paying a visit

Fans at the Disney 3-D panel at San Diego's Comic-Con on Thursday were pleasantly surprised when they were presented with a real-life Johnny Depp at the end of Tim Burton's presentation of "Alice in Wonderland."

Unfortunately, it was Burton who did most of the talking as the actor did not answer any questions.

Burton's presentation included a teaser trailer of the 3-D film.

"Looks like a freak show, doesn't it," he said about the colorful characters, such as Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter's Red Queen, Stephen Fry's Cheshire Cat, and Anne Hathaway's White Queen.

According to Burton, the film does not exactly follow the book by Lewis Carroll, and instead is made up of characters of scenes that together form a central narrative, "not just a series of events," said Burton.

Of course, not every character was used. For example, part of the Jabberwocky poem was cut.

The movie combines several forms of technology to create the final look, including stop-motion animation. It is due in 2010.
