Whitney Houston Previews New Album
Whitney Houston made an entrance at the end of a preview of her new album, Thursday, to a room full of celebrities, record-industry giants and family members. The event took place at the Beverly Hilton, on the heels of listening parties in New York and London.
The album, entitled "I Turn to You," which has been three years in the making, has been rife with speculation about Houston and whether or not she had lost her vocal prowess. But music mogul Clive Davis, who discovered Houston and who has been at the forefront of her comeback, says that it was "because we kept wanting to set the bar high, in the tradition of the great vocalists, such as Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan and Lena Horne."
The new album, based on the previews, appears to be a mix of dance tunes, mid-tempo songs and power ballads. Writers and producers include Warren, David Foster, Akon and Alicia Keys. R. Kelly also contributed two songs, including the title track which is said to be a spiritual piece.
"I Turn to You" hits record shelves on September 1.
