Ben Silverman Leaves NBC

The company's exec of two years departs to form a new entertainment company.

Ben Silverman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios co-chairman, is leaving his job after two years.

Jeff Gaspin has now been named chairman.

Silverman, whose departure from NBC had been rumored for months, is forming a new company with Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp that will create programs for television, the Internet and mobile distribution.

IAC said its new project with Silverman would be "the industry's first global platform that connects advertisers, distributors and content creators early on in the development process, enabling advertisers to be a partner in campaigns and content creation."

Two years ago, Silverman came to NBC Universal with impressive credits, producing "The Office" and "Ugly Betty." But during his time with the company, he struggled to develop more hit series and NBC came in last place in network ratings.

NBC may or may not invest in Silverman's new undertaking.
