Today Producer Fired

Head producer gets the axe in an effort to keep "Today" on top.

In light of a ratings surge by rival morning show "Good Morning America," NBC's "Today" has fired its top producer Tom Touchet. Touchet was a former producer at "Good Morning America" before NBC hired him for the "Today" team. "Today" has been the top rated morning show for ten years now with popular hosts Katie Couric and Matt Lauer. The show averaged just over 6 million viewers this year; "Good Morning America," hosted by Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer, is steadily closing the gap with 5.4 million. A successor for Touchet will be announced soon.
