Steven Spielberg To Produce "Harvey" Film

A new adaption of the 1950 film, "Harvey" has been given to the hands of Spielberg and 20th Century Fox.

Steven Spielberg is reportedly re-making the 1950 film adaption of "Harvey."

"Harvey" is based on the Pulitzer prize winning play written by Mary Chase. The story is of a man who draws concern from friends and family when he claims of befriending a six foot tall imaginary rabbit. The original film starred James Stewart as Elwood P. Dowd.

Spielberg's DreamWorks studio and 20th Century Fox will be co-producing the film. Spielberg last worked with Fox on his 2002 film, "Minority Report."

The new adaption of "Harvey" has been written by novelist Jonathan Tropper, author of such books as "This is Where I Leave You" and "The Book of Joe."

No word yet on who will star in the lead role, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hanks would be a shoe-in, as the actor has been described as the modern day James Stewart, and has worked with Spielberg on numerous projects such as "Catch Me If You Can," and "Saving Private Ryan."

Production starts next year. No release date has been announced yet.
