Kara DioGuardi To Return on American Idol Panel

After giving a good first impression, producers announce the new judge's comeback.

While there has not been any solid confirmation on whether Paula Abdul would be coming back to "American Idol" or not, it is safe to say last season's new judge, Kara DioGuardi will be back on board for season nine.

The announcement of DioGuardi's return was made Monday. She had only a one year contract with the show, but apparently has made a good impression on the show's execs, with American Idol producer Simon Fuller calling her "a breath of fresh air," also adding, "her passion for music and her understanding of talent is invaluable." She has also received praise from Fox president Mike Darnell, who tells People Magazine that DioGuardi brings new energy to the show.

Dioguardi, who is a songwriter and record-producer, was added to the talent show's panel to help boost ratings, which have dropped in the previous years. Despite the decline, the show still manages to stay television's top rated program, with an average of 26.3 million viewers an episode last season.

It was reported in July that the show's original female judge, Paula Abdul, could possibly be done with American Idol after she received no new proposal. With auditions starting on August 9th for next season, a chance for her return seems slim.

Season nine of American idol airs January 2010.
