Radiohead Release "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)" Single
Radiohead released a new song on their website Wednesday called "Harry Patch (In Memory Of)."
The song is a tribute to World War I's last surviving British veteran, Harry Patch.
Recorded weeks before Patch's death on July 25 at the age of 111, it was inspired by a radio interview Patch had done in 2005.
On Radiohead's website, Thom Yorke explained why he was inspired to write the song. Yorke stated: "The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me."
He hopes the song and Harry Patch's accounts of war will prevent future generations from forgetting the horrors.
This release come a day before the funeral of Harry Patch and is the first officially released song for Radiohead since 2007's "In Rainbows". The song is available for sale on Radiohead's Web site and all proceeds from the song will benefit the Royal British Legion.
Radiohead is currently in the studio working on and recording new material for their eighth studio album.
