Taiwanese Pop Singer to Play Green Hornet's Sidekick

Jay Chou has been signed as the new Kato.

The Green Hornet, an upcoming movie based on a1930s radio show, has just cast Taiwan's Jay Chou as the Hornet's sidekick, Kato.

According to ABC news, "The Green Hornet" started as a radio show created by George W. Trendle. It was later made into a show and a comic book series, and had its first film adaptation in 1974, in which Kato was played by Bruce Lee. Lee's performance in the film popularized martial arts in the West.

Chou is delighted to be able to play the role that Lee made famous, Reuters reports. He says, "I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato. I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part."

Jay Chou is a well-known pop singer in Asia, and has already acted in several Asian films such as "Initial D" and "Kung Fu Dunk." Michael Gondry, director of "The Green Hornet," has said, "Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog," writes Wired News.

The film's hero will be played by Seth Rogen, who co-wrote the script. It is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2010.
