The Green Hornet Finds a New Kato
Columbia Pictures has confirmed that Jay Chou, a Taiwanese actor and musician, will play Kato in a new film version of "The Green Hornet," directed by Michel Gondry.
Chou joins the cast of Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, and Nicolas Cage for the production. Kato was played by Bruce Lee in the 1960s television show.
Chou jumped at the chance to play Kato, the Green Hornet's sidekick, after Stephen Chow walked away from the project last month. Chow was once attached to direct.
The film, written by Rogen & Evan Goldberg, is based upon "The Green Hornet" radio series created by George W. Trendle.
"It's an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won't try to be Bruce Lee's Kato - I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part," Chou told ABC News.
The film will have a summer 2010 release.
