Family Guy Abortion Episode Performed for Emmy Voters

The censored episode was read to a panel of voters, Wednesday.

Emmy voters got a taste of the unaired abortion episode of "Family Guy."

The cast of the popular animated series performed a reading for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the press at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre in Hollywood, Wednesday.

The episode that Fox deemed too controversial to air centered on Lois agreeing to be a surrogate mother for an infertile couple, leaving her with a tough decision after the pair dies in a car accident.

"Family Guy" is the first animated program to be nominated for a comedy series Emmy since "The Flintstones" in 1961.

Originally, the episode was ambiguous about whether or not Lois got the abortion, but series creator Seth MacFarlane added an ending where father Peter assures the audience that she did. The censored episode will likely be featured on a future DVD release of the show.

The typically liberal leaning show will add some balance this fall when Republican heavyweights Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove will play themselves on the program.

"Family Guy tends to be very liberal, because it's written by liberals," MacFarlane told E! Online. "So we figured . . . let's give the other side some face time."
