'Family Guy' Goes for Best Comedy Series with Abortion Episode
The controversial animated comedy series, "Family Guy," has just received the nod to be considered for the Best Comedy Series Emmy. According to the L.A. Times, it is the first animated show since "The Flintstones" to break into this category.
The episode that creator Seth MacFarlane presented to the panel was controversial indeed, and never made it to TV. The Fox Network declined to air the episode due to its "unattractiveness to advertisers," writes E! Online.
In this episode, Lois agrees to be a surrogate mother for a friend who later dies in a car accident. She must then decide what to do with the growing embryo inside her. After many wacky arguments with her husband, Peter, who watched an anti-abortion tape, she aborts it.
"If God wanted us to kill babies, he would have made them all Chinese girls," said MacFarlane in Peter's voice.
The Associated Press reports that despite the sensitive topic, the crowd loved it. It is expected that the episode will eventually come out on DVD. For now, "Family Guy" will be competing against shows like "30 Rock" and "The Office" for the coveted award.
