Shutter Island Pushed Back
Paramount Pictures is pushing the release of Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" from Oct. 3 to Feb. 19 of next year, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, the picture's previous release date was prime for the year-end Oscar season. Scorsese and DiCaprio previously collaborated on the Oscar-nominated films "Gangs of New York," "The Aviator" and "The Departed."
"Our 2009 slate was green-lit in a very different economic climate and as a result we must remain flexible and willing to recalibrate and adapt to a changing environment," Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Brad Grey said in a statement.
Paramount has already spent plenty marketing its summer movies "Star Trek," "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra."
The studio also has two year end releases, "The Lovely Bones" and "Up in the Air," that they will likely push for Oscar consideration.
"Shutter Island" is adapted from the Dennis Lehane novel about two investigators who explore the escape of a mental patient and get trapped on the institution's secluded island.
