Project Runway sets record for Lifetime
Project Runway's season six premiere on its new network, Lifetime, set records for both the show and the new network. According to LATimes.com, the season premiere had 4.2 million total viewers. That's 45 percent more than last season's premiere and a record for the show itself.
The president of Lifetime, Andrea Wong, says that she is hoping for "Project Runway" to play a "key part in the evolution of our brand, to bring more relevance and a more contemporary feel" to the network. "Runway" will hopefully bring more viewers to the network, while exposing them to some of Lifetime's other programs.
In addition to "Runway," the spin-off, "Models of the Runway," also premiered. This show takes place in the time slot right after "Runway" and focuses on the models of the show rather than the designers. Although both shows have similar prizes for the winner, the difference is in the contestants. According to NYTimes.com, in an interview with Sara Rea, the executive producer of "Models of the Runway," the difference is, "Our models are already working. They already have contracts. This is about what it's like to see working models in the real fashion world, not women who are just starting out and trying to get signed."
With a record breaking premiere and a new spin-off to garner more viewers, the network move seems like it will be successful for "Runway."
