Shutter Island shifted back to 2010

Paramount moves DiCaprio-Scorsese film back.

The upcoming psychological drama, "Shutter Island," starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese, has been pushed back by its studio, Paramount Pictures. The film, which had an original release date of Oct. 2, will now open on Feb. 19.

"Our 2009 slate was greenlit in a very different economic climate and as a result we must remain flexible and willing to recalibrate and adapt to a changing environment," said Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Brad Grey in a statement.

Grey went on to say that moving the film back to 2010 and giving the studio a solid early release was ultimately the best decision for the film, the studio and Viacom.

Paramount did similar shifting in 2008, moving the films "Defiance" and "The Soloist" back to January and April, respectively.

The move leaves Paramount with a slim fourth-quarter slate, save the Peter Jackson project, "The Lovely Bones," due out Dec. 11.
