James Cameron's new film, "Avatar," got a special preview on Friday, otherwise known as "Avatar Day."

James Cameron's new film, "Avatar," is so big, it's got its own holiday.

Last Friday was "Avatar Day," and James Cameron gave fans the chance to get a sneak peek at 342 locations in 58 countries, including 102 screenings in the United States alone.

Tickets for the screening were free and available online, but the screening's Web site crashed on Monday due to high traffic.

"Avatar" is Cameron's first feature film since "Titanic" and his second venture in 3-D filmmaking. The film stars "Terminator Salvation's" Sam Worthington and "Alien's" Sigourney Weaver.

The early preview has already paid off. Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News called it, "fairly spectacular," and Starpulse Entertainment News praised Cameron for creating "a world of beauty and excitement."

"Avatar" opens nationwide December 18.
