Special "Avatar" Trailer Premiered At Theaters Over the Weekend

16-minute "Avatar" trailer previewed on Aug. 21 with never-before-seen footage

James Cameron's sci-fi odyssey "Avatar" is set to premiere on Dec. 18, but lucky fans were able to see a special trailer over the past weekend in IMAX theaters.

The Los Angeles Times reports the 16-minute "Avatar" trailer previewed internationally on Aug. 21, "Avatar Day," with never-before-seen footage.

Cameron and 20th Century Fox hoped to fuel the buzz and interest in the film resulting from the 20 minute screening of "Avatar" at the 2009 Comic-Con International and the trailer released on Apple.

The official trailer and the exclusive never-before-seen 16 minute footage released on "Avatar Day" received mixed reviews. Numerous fans are disappointed in the quality of the film. Some fans bashed his eagerness to create a film as big as the "Titanic," and others disliked how the footage resembled a video game as opposed to the celebrated quality of CGI.
