Robin Williams to star in Disney's 'Wedding'
Actor Robin Williams has signed on to star in Disney's "Wedding Banned," a romantic comedy for Touchstone Pictures.
According to an article on Variety.com, "In the comedy, Williams will play one-half of a long-divorced couple who kidnap their daughter on her wedding day in order to keep her from making a mistake. The divorced parents rekindle their relationship as they elude cops and the angry groom."
"Wedding" pairs Williams up with Disney again after he starred in their comedy, entitled "Old Dogs," which opens Nov. 25 and also stars John Travolta.
A HollywoodReporter.com article notes, "The project, being produced by Mandeville's David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, has no director attached. Nicole Rocklin and Blye Faust are also producing."
Last summer, Disney grabbed the script that Jack Amiel and Michael Begler penned and Kristin Burr is overseeing the film for Touchstone.
Amiel and Begler also wrote the 2004 Kate Hudson/John Corbett romantic comedy, "Raising Helen," and the 2006 Tim Allen/Kristin Davis/Robert Downey, Jr./Danny Glover family comedy, "The Shaggy Dog," for Mandeville Films.
The Variety.com article also mentions, "Mandeville most recently produced pic 'The Proposal' and the upcoming 'Surrogates' for Touchstone, and 'Beverly Hills Chihuahua' for Disney before that. It's currently in production on Paramount's boxing drama 'The Fighter.'"
Williams's recent movie credits include the 2009 indie films, "World's Greatest Dad" and "Shrink."Williams is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and MBST Entertainment.
