John Mayer's Twitter Bet Benefits Animal Rescue Shelters
John Mayer used Twitter this week to help a good cause and poke fun at himself.
The singer was http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1619833/20090828/mayer_john.jhtml >responding to the arrest of Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump for driving without a license, an offense that Mayer was arrested for in 2001.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,544328,00.html >Mayer bet TMZ that they could not locate his mug shot from his 2001 arrest, offering $25,000 towards a charity of their choice.
The Smoking Gun beat out TMZ and published the http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/johnmayermugshot1.html >mug shot on their Web site, so Mayer split the $25,000 reward and wrote two checks for $12,500 to Pet Orphans of Southern California and http://www.acesangels.org/ >Ace of Hearts.
Pet Orphans of Southern California and Ace of Hearts are adoption organizations for rescue dogs in California.
TMZ's Harvey Levin praised Mayer for being "awesome" and wrote on http://twitter.com/HarveyLevinTMZ >Twitter, "These two animal charities are really hurting 'cause of the economy. [Mayer] has just saved a bunch of lives."
