Stafford to Start Final Preseason Game
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft, will start the final preseason game at the Buffalo Bills on Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, Stafford is getting the start in large part due to injuries to quarterbacks Daunte Culpepper and Drew Stanton. Culpepper sustained a cut on his foot at his home which required 18 stitches and Stanton has torn knee cartilage which will require season-ending surgery.
In light of injuries to two of their quarterbacks, The Detroit News reports that the Lions have signed free agent quarterback Brooks Bollinger, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys at the end of last season. "His career statistics: 211 completions in 360 attempts (58.6 percent), 2,226 yards, nine touchdowns, nine interceptions."
