Diane Sawyer to Replace Charles Gibson on ABC's "World News"
ABC has announced that they have chosen the blonde anchorwoman to replace Gibson, Wednesday. Gibson will step down from his position at the end of the year. He actually wanted to retire back in 2007 but changed his mind after a number of events made him want to stay.
"It had been my intention to step down from my job at Good Morning America in 2007 but with Peter's illness, Bob's injuries, and Elizabeth's pregnancy, the job at World News came open in May of 2006, and David asked me to step in as anchor. It was an honor to do so. The program is now operating at a very accelerated, but steady, cruising speed, and I think it is an opportune time for a transition both for the broadcast and for me. Life is dynamic; it is not static," Charles Gibson announces in a personal e-mail posted on ABC News' Web site.
Sawyer will bring some new competition to the table for Katie Couric, anchor for "CBS Evening News." Once Sawyer starts anchoring for "World News," women will be the dominate anchors in evening news.
Of course, along with Sawyer's new success, loads of negative propaganda begins to resurface over the Web. Many YouTube videos showing what appears to be a very inebriated Sawyer has become very popular again after the announcement of her promotion.
