Bob Barker has long been an advocate for animals.
Bob Barker. A sentence on it's own, synonymous with animal rights and the ethical treatment of animals.
Bob is best known as the former host of CBC's The Price is Right. In his 28 years as host, the show won 19 Emmy Awards, and Bob received a Daytime Emmy Award for best host and more recently the Lifetime Achievement Award for daytime television. He is also known as a pillar in the movement in animal rights and the treatment of animals.
Bob Barker founded the D & J Foundation in 1994 which is a non-profit organization to help people spay and neuter their pets throughout the United States. His belief is that by controlling the overpopulation of pets, he will be saving the next generation of pets from being homeless.
In 1979 Bob took his passion one step farther by becoming a vegetarian and he will not wear furs or leather. In 1987, in what was known as "the fur flap of 1987," he had a stand off with producers of the Miss Universe Pageant, which he hosted at the time. He had discussions with the producers of the fur prizes, which was leaked to the press. This was said to be one of the best things that could have happened to the anti-fur campaign. But in 1988 the pageant returned to giving fur prizes and Bob resigned.
Bob has supported these charities: Orca Network, The Humane Society, and United Activists for Animal Rights.
