Dern and White reunite for HBO comedy pilot
Actress Laura Dern and director Mike White, who worked together on the 2007 dramedy, "Year of the Dog," are teaming up again, this time for an HBO comedy pilot about a negatively-minded woman who experiences a life-changing epiphany.
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "The single-camera comedy, tentatively titled 'Enlightened,' stars Dern as a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening and becomes determined to live an enlightened life, creating havoc at home and work. The project stems from Dern's standout performance as Katherine Harris in the 2008 HBO film 'Recount,' which got the attention of HBO brass."
"The only thing I can think of cooler than making a show at HBO is doing it with Laura Dern," White said. "I am totally stoked."
Production on "Enlightened's" pilot is set to start in December.
"Enlightened's" speedy development is akin to the swift turnaround time of yet another HBO comedy series, the summer breakout hit, "Hung."
The HollywoodReporter.com article also mentions other projects that HBO has waiting in the wings, "HBO is readying two other new comedy series: 'Bored to Death,' which bows Sept. 20, and 'How to Make It in America.'"
Dern's previous credits include 1993's Steven Spielberg-directed hit, "Jurassic Park," in which she starred opposite Sam Neill, the 1993 Clint Eastwood-directed crime drama, "A Perfect World," and the 2001 Sean Penn/Michelle Pfeiffer drama, "I Am Sam."
White's previous credits include producing and writing the 2006 Jack Black comedy, "Nacho Libre," as well as writing the 2002 Jennifer Aniston/Jake Gyllenhaal dramedy, "The Good Girl," and writing yet another Jack Black comedy, 2003's "The School of Rock."
