Kennedy Center Honors recipients including Springsteen, De Niro, and Brooks

Kennedy Center Honors award five artists who have wowed the performing arts world with their lifetime of contributions.

The Kennedy Center Honors are annual honors given to top contributors in the performing arts each year. This year's recipients are singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, actor Robert De Niro, jazz icon Dave Brubeck, comedic writer-director Mel Brooks, and opera singer Grace Bumbry.

This prestigious award honors a large variety of performing arts, including classical and pop music, dance, composition, and acting. Award winners are selected by previous honorees along with the Kennedy Center's national artists committee.

The Kennedy Center will host the Honors Gala, Dec. 6, and the 32nd annual ceremony will be broadcast on CBS, Dec. 29. At the awards ceremony, those being recognized will sit with President and First Lady Obama, who will receive the recipients at the White House before the Gala. The evening before the event, sashes and medallions will be given out at a dinner hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
