Vogue's highly anticipated Fashion's Night Out is tonight
Fashion's Night Out (FNO) was organized by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, along with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and New York City's ad agency NYC & Co to boost the fashion industry and stimulate the US economy. It has morphed into a truly international event, taking place in 17 countries around the world, on the same date - September 10, 2009. This global initiative to encourage retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion is taking place in countries far and wide, from Brazil and India to Australia and the United Kingdom.
In the United States, it is taking place in New York with over 800 retail stores around the city participating in the festivities, and organizing special events in their stores from 6pm to 11pm. The goods will be on sale plus shoppers will be treated to special appearances by designers and celebrities, music performances, free beauty treatments, and food and drinks. The NYC FNO also serves as a kick-off for the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, which begins today. According to the New York Times, there will be a slew of recognizable faces present tonight- from the Olsen twins who are bartending at the Bergdorf and Victoria Beckham who will be signing T-shirts to Donna Karan, Manolo Blahnik, Justin Timberlake, Blake Lively and Hugh Jackman.
Participating retailers include Rock & Republic, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Fred Segal, Neiman Marcus, Rose Ark, Tom's Shoes, MAC, Macy's, Ralph Lauren and many more. There will also be special FNO t-shirts available for sale (with proceeds going to charity) and a clothing drive to benefit the September 11 Memorial and Museum, and the NYC AIDS Fund.
